James Strawbridge, patriotic Doctor and Congressman

Grand Old Partisan salutes James Strawbridge, born April 7th 1824. He attended Princeton and University of Pennsylvania medical school.

Outbreak of civil war, Strawbridge enlisted in the Union Army. He rose from brigade surgeon to corp medical officer to hospital commander. In 1872, this patriotic Republican won a congressional term. Receiving his vote were the gold standard and the 1875 Civil Rights Act.
