Grand Old Partisan honors John Marshall Robsion, born in Kentucky, January 2nd 1873. His father had fought for the Union. Early career was trial lawyer and bank president. He advocated women’s suffrage at the GOP’s 1916 national convention.
Two years later, Robsion won first of six congressional terms. January 1930, a Republican Governor appointed him to a 10-month Senate vacancy. He then returned to the House of Representatives for seven more terms. Colleagues eulogized him as:
"aways fearless and courageous, a great orator, one of the most persuasive debaters in Congress"
"a great American, a true Kentuckian, and a staunch Republican"
"a Republican from beginning to end"
"one of the noblest Representatives of them all"
John Marshall Robison, Junior worked as a government lawyer then counsel for the Kentucky GOP before serving in the Army during WWII. Public service began on the state bench. He was delegate at the 1952 Republican National Convention. That year, this political moderate won first of three congressional terms. He voted for the GOP’s 1957 Civil Rights Act.
