President Eisenhower and the Tomb of the Unknowns

Grand Old Partisan highlights Republican reverence for our nation’s fallen military heroes. August 3rd 1956, Dwight Eisenhower signed a bill for honoring the Unknowns of World War II and the Korean War. They were to be entombed at Arlington National Cemetery.

In 1958, an Unknown from World War II and another from the Korean War were selected. Their caskets arrived at the Capitol Rotunda on May 28th. Two days later, the President awarded each the Medal of Honor, before interment in the Tomb of the Unknowns. He and Vice President Nixon presided over the ceremony.
