Grand Old Partisan acclaims Elizabeth Dole, born near Charlotte, July 29th 1936. Following graduation with honors from Duke University, she earned an MA in education from Harvard University and a JD from Harvard Law School. During the Nixon administration, this recovering Democrat was deputy assistant for consumer affairs and member of the Federal Trade Commission.
President Ronald Reagan named her director of the White House Office of Public Liaison and then Secretary of Transportation. Dole was Secretary of Labor for the George H. Bush administration. Next came nine years as president of the American Red Cross. In 2002, she won a term in the U.S. Senate.
