David Alexander Nunn, anti-Confederate Tennessee Congressman

Grand Old Partisan honors David Alexander Nunn, born in Tennessee, July 26th 1833. This prominent attorney became involved with the Whig Party. During the Civil War, he supported the Lincoln administration.

Peace restored, Nunn won election to the state house, then the U.S. House of Representatives. Reconstruction Acts and the 15th Amendment received his vote. President Grant named him ambassador to Ecuador.

While serving another term, Nunn voted for the 1875 Civil Rights Act. He was delegate at two Republican National Conventions. President McKinley appointed him to a Treasury Department position.
