Grand Old Partisan lauds Asahel Hubbard, born in Indiana, January 19th 1819. His original profession was stonecutter. After studying law, he won a term in the state house.
Hubbard moved to Iowa and was elected judge. Beginning in 1863, the dedicated Republican served three congressional terms. He focused on supporting the Union war effort and on promoting railroad construction. Receiving his vote were GOP achievements such as the Freedmen’s Bureau, and the 13th, 14th, 15th Amendments. Later years, he managed a bank and infrastructure projects.
