Albert Thompson – Valiant Soldier and Republican Congressman and Federal Judge

Grand Old Partisan salutes Albert Thompson, born January 23rd 1842. The young patriot commanded an infantry company during the Civil War. Mustered out after a severe wound at Second Bull Run, he studied law.

His legal profession began as county probate judge in Ohio. This was followed by election to the district court bench. In 1884, he won the first of three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was delegate at the 1896 Republican National Convention. William McKinley appointed him chairman of a commission for revising the criminal code. After this success, the President named him a federal judge.
