Grand Old Partisan appreciates the success of Republican administrations at improving the economy. November 30th 2018, President Donald Trump signed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, along with the Mexican President and the Canadian Prime Minister. The ceremony took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina during a G20 Summit.
For years, Trump had called NAFTA "perhaps the worst trade deal ever made" and vowed to replace it with something better. Hailing the USMCA as "the largest, most significant, modern, and balanced trade agreement in history," he said that "in the United States, the new trade pact will support high-paying manufacturing jobs and promote greater access for American exports across the range of sectors, including our farming, manufacturing, and service industries. This is an agreement that, first and foremost, benefits working people."
After congressional approval, President Trump signed the USMCA into law on January 29th 2020.
