Grand Old Partisan salutes Dwight Griswold, born in Nebraska, November 27th 1893. After graduation from the state university, he started working at a bank. He was an artillery captain during WWI. Next came editing a newspaper.
Griswold won terms in both houses of the legislature. On his fourth attempt, this relentless Republican was elected governor in 1940. President Harry Truman, an old army buddy, appointed him go the postwar German government. His next assignment was chief of the American mission for aid to Greece.
In 1952, Griswold won election to a U.S. Senate vacancy. He was named to the Nebraska Hall of Fame.
