William McKinley made the first-ever campaign video

Grand Old Partisan commends Republican political innovations. September 18th 1896, a company co-owned by former President Benjamin Harrison filmed the first-ever campaign video. In a reenactment of the actual event, William McKinley is informed, while at home, by aide George Cortelyou that he had received the Republican presidential nomination. McKinley’s wife Ida can been seen on the porch in a rocking chair.

The dynamic McKinley campaign went on to film him at dozens of events. Brief clips were shown across the nation prior to the election. The campaign also produced sound recordings, such as:
