Grand Old Partisan salutes Daniel Davis, born near Bangor, September 12th 1843. During the Civil War, the young patriot served in the 1st District of Columbia Cavalry, then the 1st Maine Cavalry. Peace restored, he studied law.
Davis served four years in the state house and four years in the state senate. In 1880, he was elected Governor. Fusion of the Democratic and Greenback parties narrowly defeated his re-election. President Chester Arthur named him a collector of customs.
