Grand Old Partisan salutes James Laird, born June 20th 1849. He enlisted in the Union Army at thirteen and survived five wounds.
After studying law at the University of Michigan, Laird settled in Nebraska. His entry to politics was delegate at the 1875 constitutional convention. In 1882, he won the first of four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.
