President Eisenhower named Camp David for his grandson

Grand Old Partisan spotlights Camp David. This 200-acre presidential retreat is in the mountains of western Maryland, about sixty miles from the nation’s capital. During the FDR and Truman administrations, it was known as "Shangri-La."

Dwight Eisenhower re-named it "Camp David" in honor of his grandson. May 12th 1953, the President made his first visit there.
