Grand Old Partisan honors Ithamar Sloan, born May 9th 1822. He relocated from New York to Wisconsin and was elected district attorney.
In 1862, Sloan won the first of two terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. This resolute Republican supported the Union war effort. Receiving his vote were GOP initiatives such as the 13th and 14th Amendments, the Freedmen’s Bureau and the 1866 Civil Rights Act.
Later years, Sloan headed the University of Wisconsin Law School. His brother was a Republican congressman and state attorney general.
