Grand Old Partisan admires Isaac Samuel Leevy, born in South Carolina, May 3rd 1876. He studied at Hampton Institute, a prominent Historically Black College or University. Starting with a tailoring shop, the Columbia-based businessman created jobs for hundreds of people. Ventures included a department store, a bank, a service station and a funeral home.
Leevy served as vice chairman of the South Carolina GOP as well as Richland County chairman. He was delegate at the 1956 Republican National Convention. Twice he ran for state house, three times for city council, and four times for Congress. Among his successes was expanding educational opportunities for minorities. This civil rights activist served in leadership positions of the NAACP and the Southern Christian Leadership Council.
Alas, in 1964 he joined the Slavery Party.
