Horatio Bisbee – Union Army Colonel from Maine and Republican Congressman from Florida

Grand Old Partisan salutes Horatio Bisbee, born May 1st 1839. During the Civil War, the young patriot served in the 9th Maine Infantry and rode to be its colonel. His regiment deployed to Florida.

Peace restored, Bisbee studied law and returned to the Sunshine State. President Ulysses Grant made him U.S. Attorney. Later, a Republican Governor named him interim attorney general.

In 1876, Bisbee won election to Congress, by three votes. He won a second term by six hundred forty-five votes, then a third by two hundred fifty-six votes. After this, he practiced law at Jacksonville.
