Grand Old Partisan spotlights the Capitol Hill Club. This national social club for Republicans was the brainchild of a New Jersey Congressman. James Auchincloss brought together one hundred founding members from twenty-two states.
The club was incorporated on January 10th 1951. Its purpose:
"to advocate and maintain the principles of Republicanism as enunciated by the Republican party" and "to serve as a headquarters and meeting place for Republicans from all sections of the country, as well as for the several Republican organizations in the District of Columbia."
First to chair its executive committee was Michigan Congressman William Broomfield. The original clubhouse stood where the Library of Congress Madison Building is today. The club’s home since 1972 is next to headquarters of the Republican National Committee.

"This is the most amazing book about politics that I have ever read. The Overview should be required reading for anyone with even a minor interest in government. The remainder is an enthralling history lesson that I will never forget. For years, we have all been misled about the true nature of the GOP. This is the real deal! Read it and be proud!"
"Michael Zak wrote the definitive history of the GOP."
"Back to Basics for the Republican Party is the most significant contribution to the Republican Party in the last twenty years apart from Ronald Reagan."
