Grand Old Partisan spotlights the 2005 Republican Freedom Calendar. Thousands of these documents were distributed at the 2004 Republican National Convention, which began on August 30th in New York City. Additional calendars were delivered to Members of Congress and other officials around the country.
After reading Back to Basics for the Republican Party, my history of the GOP, Representative Christopher Cox hired me at the House Policy Committee. He wanted to help inform people about the book's theme, that Republicans should appreciate the heritage of our Grand Old Party. The result was this calendar, celebrating 365 achievements and heroes of the Republican Party. The entries were re-published, though not credited to me, on many websites.
Since then, the calendar’s mission has continued at my www.grandoldpartisan.com blog and my Grand Old Partisan channel on YouTube.
Cox made sure to give credit where credit was due. At his insistence, the back cover of the calendar says: "Text based in substantial part on the original copyrighted work of Michael Zak, Back to Basics for the Republican Party.

"This is the most amazing book about politics that I have ever read. The Overview should be required reading for anyone with even a minor interest in government. The remainder is an enthralling history lesson that I will never forget. For years, we have all been misled about the true nature of the GOP. This is the real deal! Read it and be proud!"
"Michael Zak wrote the definitive history of the GOP."
"Back to Basics for the Republican Party is the most significant contribution to the Republican Party in the last twenty years apart from Ronald Reagan."
