Grand Old Partisan honors Jeane Kirkpatrick, born in Oklahoma, November 19th 1926. She attained a BA, an MA and a PhD from Columbia University. This was followed by a year at the University of Paris. Her political affiliation began as Socialist, then Democrat, and eventually Republican.
Kirkpatrick published widely in political science journals to criticize the Democratic Party for its weak foreign policy. She observed that "traditional authoritarian governments are less repressive than revolutionary autocracies." One article, Dictatorships and Double Standards, caught Ronald Reagan’s attention.
The new President appointed her ambassador to the United Nations. Keynoting the 1984 Republican National Convention, she denounced Democrats for their 'Blame America First' tendencies. Kirkpatrick was a tireless supporter of Israel.
"Jeane Kirkpatrick was truly an American heroine. She bravely championed the values of freedom and liberty in the face of tyrants and fanatics."
