Rep. John Boehner has recently affirmed that: "This is not a time for compromise, and I can tell you that we will not compromise on our principles."
Just a few weeks ago, the next Speaker of the House strenuously denounced Obamacare. Here is my transcription of his vow to do "everything" to oppose Obamacare:
Grand Old Partisan had the honor of attending Rep. Boehner's speech at the American Enterprise Institute on September 30. The next Speaker of the House spoke on Congressional Reform and the People's House. In his prepared remarks, Boehner recounted "the collapse of the 111th Congress" and laid out a series of proposed reforms.
Even more insightful was the Q & A session, in which he made clear his firm opposition to the Democrats' disastrous healthcare law. Here are [my transcription] Rep. Boehner's remarks, which begin at the 40:40 mark of the video recording:
"If you believe as I do that Obamacare will ruin the best healthcare delivery system in the world and believe as I do that it will bankrupt our country, we’ve made it clear that we want to repeal Obamacare and replace it with common-sense reforms that will bring down the cost of health insurance. Having said that, if we’re in the majority, there will be a bill to repeal Obamacare and replace it with common-sense reforms. I can’t speak for what will happen in the Senate and I don’t know what President Obama may or may not do, as you can probably imagine.
Secondly, you know that there were $550 billion worth of Medicare cuts in the healthcare bill. Let me tell you, if there were $550 billion to save in Medicare, why wouldn’t we use it to save Medicare, instead of taking it from Medicare, that doesn’t have it, and starting a brand new entitlement program? And so I would repeal the $550 billion worth of Medicare cuts, and let’s see how many votes that bill gets in the House and Senate.
Thirdly, they’re going to need money from the Congress to hire what we think are up to 22,000 new federal government employees to run this monstrosity. And I can just assure you that there will not be one dime from this Congress to expand this. When I say we’re going to do everything to make sure this law does not go into effect, I mean we will do everything. Is that clear? Good."
Amen. This is exactly the resolute opposition to Obamacare that voters need to hear! No more reaching across the aisle. If someone offers you socialism, just say NO.
